Not One to Save by skeletoninadress Not One to Save by skeletoninadress
I stand amid the roar
of a surf-tormented shore,
And I hold within my hand
Grains of the golden sand-
How few! Yet how they creep
Through my fingers to the deep,
While I weep- while I weep!
O God! Can I not save
One from the pitiless wave?

~Edgar Allen Poe

I wish people would appreciate this statue on it's own merits instead of it being the cover of Nightwish's 'Once'

lol yes I've heard a few of their songs. I took this at Cypress Lawn Memorial Gardens in Colma, California. This statue is, however, a replica. There are also two other replicas- one is at Stanford (California), the other is over on the East coast somewhere. The original is in Rome. I don't know which one was used for the Nightwish poster.
I believe this statue was also used by Evanescence?

Thanks again! =D

I'm not sure if it's this exact statue; the Weeping Angel monument can also be found in Stanford and one on the east coast somewhere (the original is in Rome). This particular one is in Colma. I'm not sure which one was used for Nightwish's cover.

i can feel the grief in her sorrow and hear her deep sob's as she mourns.
good composition... straight on is full of emotion.
a lot is said by her face being down and the arm hanging over pedestal but i believe so much more can be felt by the set of her shoulders, it's as if she's totally overwhelmed and has no strength left in her. nice capture, and i love the darkness of the shadows. beauty
poe is wonderful, and works so well.

Thanks so much! Yes, she certainly is a beauty. I've seen pictures of her for years and years, so when I finally found out that she's in Colma, I was so ecstatic! I've always wanted to try my own hand an photographing her to see if I could bring anything new.

hmm, i don't believe i've had the opportunity to see the others, so... how do you feel you've done in comparison?
i think you've done a great job.

Well thank you. =D

I think I did a decent job. ^_^ Most people who photograph her are tourists of sorts, so they usually include more of the background and represent her for what she is- a statue- instead of what she could be.
So I think I gave more life to her.
